Meet Coach Alfredo Arrieta
Hello, I’m Alfredo Arrieta, but around here, most people just call me “Coach.” My love for baseball runs deep. I’ve been passionate about the game for as long as I can remember. Growing up, baseball wasn’t just a hobby; it was a way of life. Over the years, I’ve not only honed my skills as a player, but also as a mentor to young athletes. Now, as a father of three children who share the same love for the sport, coaching has become a natural extension of my passion. Watching my kids thrive on the field inspired me to step up and pass on the fundamentals of the game to the next generation. Baseball is more than just a game to me. It's an opportunity to teach discipline, teamwork, and dedication, both to my own children and to the young athletes I coach.
Coaching Philosophy and Style
My coaching philosophy is simple: I aim to provide children with the fundamental skills to help them develop their talent in the sport. Every player is different, and I believe that each child has their own way of finding motivation. I work to guide their energy into positive growth, both as athletes and as people. The most important lesson I want to teach young athletes is respect—for their fellow athletes and, more importantly, for themselves. The best athletes are those who show dedication and hard work.
Memorable Moments and Achievements
One of my proudest moments as a coach is seeing my own children achieve so much through their dedication, and I’ve also been proud to see a few of our players develop great pitching skills. I’ve spent 6 years coaching young athletes in small categories and participated in 6 national tournaments in Mexico as an assistant coach and official scorekeeper. Working with kids from ages 6 to 14 and coaching youth teams of 14 and 15-year-olds has been a rewarding experience.
Personal Insights
Victory is something all athletes strive for, and it’s one of the things I enjoy most about coaching. The sense of achievement when a team wins after hard work is unbeatable. But I also love the process of developing skills and discipline in young athletes. It’s fulfilling to watch them grow and improve.
Community and Engagement
I believe in giving every child the opportunity to learn baseball and understand how it can lead them down a positive path in life. I engage with the community by providing these opportunities and encouraging participation in the sport. I believe that community support is important because it promotes the mental and physical well-being of its members, and youth sports play a big role in that.
Fun and Personal Touch
Outside of coaching, one of my favorite hobbies is fishing. When it comes to baseball, my favorite team is the Dodgers—they’ve always been an inspiration to me.
Vision and Future
In the coming years, I see great growth for the DC Outlaws, with the team continuing to improve and build discipline. My long-term goal is to keep developing the skills of young athletes, preparing them for greater success. My advice for young players is this: Sports are not only a way to excel, but also a rewarding lifestyle. With hard work and dedication, sports can lead to great personal success.
