Meet Coach Christi Larman
Hi, I’m Christi Larman, and I’ve been playing softball since I was 5 years old. Now, I’m a single mom of four kids, and while I work full time, I always make time for this sport that I love. I got involved with the DC Outlaws when the organization first started, helping coach the team. This is my second year coaching with the league, and I’ve also run adult coed softball for the YMCA.
This season, my main goal is to get to know each player’s strengths and weaknesses so we can grow as a team. I believe in playing to have fun while also improving as athletes. My role is to help the girls enjoy the game while working together as a team, and to give them the experience they need to move forward on the field.
Coaching Philosophy and Style
My coaching philosophy is simple: "Just do your best."
I want the kids to feel good about their effort, not just the outcome. I motivate my players by bringing positive energy, thoughts, and feedback to every practice and game. The most important lesson I try to teach is that it’s not always about winning, but about trying your best and being part of a team where everyone is growing together.
Memorable Moments and Achievements
One of my proudest moments as a coach is seeing how much the girls improve throughout the season, especially during practices. Watching them gain confidence and grow in their skills is what makes coaching so rewarding for me.
Personal Insights
What I enjoy most about coaching is being back on the field, teaching a game I love but can no longer play myself. The most influential person in my coaching career was my fast-pitch coach. He was tough, but he always pushed us to do our best, win or lose. I’ve tried to bring that same approach to my own coaching style.
Advice for Young Athletes:
My advice for young athletes is simple: "Practice makes you better." Keep working hard, and you’ll see yourself improve, both on and off the field.
Fun and Personal Touch
When I’m not coaching, you’ll probably find me bowling. I’ve been bowling since I was three! I also love hanging out with my family, having bonfires, and watching the Kansas City Royals. I’ve been lucky enough to attend two games at their stadium. Oh, and I love dogs, that’s one fun fact about me that not everyone knows!
Vision and Future
My goal this season is to give the girls as much game experience as possible. I want them to have the chance to learn and grow through real game situations. In the long term, I hope to see everyone in the DC Outlaws continue to grow, both as players and as an organization. I want to help build a program that not only teaches kids about sports but also brings the community together to support local businesses and enjoy the games.
